What are you doing to celebrate Loving Day, the day the Supreme Court finally decided to lift the ban on interracial marriage? Thanks to the courage of Mildred and Richard Loving, who took their right to be man and wife all the way to the Supreme Court, we use this day to remember that life would look very different for many of us.
But Loving Day is truly about celebrating love across all boundaries, so it should be a day filled with joy. To find out if there are any Loving Day celebrations happening in your city, check out the official Loving Day website for a calendar of events.
Here in Philly, ?RU is teaming up with Swirl Philly to celebrate Loving Day with a special tour at the Franklin Museum to see the Race: Are We So Different? exhibit. We're really looking forward to it and hope to see some of you there.
So tell us, what are you doing to celebrate Loving Day? Anybody who takes the time to answer before June 20th 2009, will be placed in a drawing to receive a free, just out, paperback copy of Lori Tharps' memoir, Kinky Gazpacho: Life, Love & Spain. The book chronicles Lori's interracial, transcontinental, bilingual romance, with her Spanish husband.
