When and Where is the Celebration?
June 12, 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of the landmark Loving vs Virginia decision, legalizing interracial marriages for couples across the country. Richard and Mildred Loving's persistent efforts enabled many of us to be married today. Whether you're in a mixed race or interfaith relationship, are bi-racial, or support friends and family in mixed race relationships, please join us in celebration! There will be time for socializing, live music, raffle prizes, and a film screening and discussion. All ages welcome! Proceeds from ticket sales will be used to cover costs of the event. Any additional proceeds will be donated to LovingDay.org. No tickets needed for children under 13.
After The Event
Forty-five of us gathered at Busboys and Poets in Arlington on June 12th to honor Richard and Mildred Loving and to celebrate unions in our life. We played games, watched a clip of the film, had a discussion, and enjoyed live music not to mention raffle and door prizes. The organizers so appreciated everyone's passion and commitment to the cause. Thanks to their support, after covering venue and entertainment costs, we were able to donate $105 to Loving Day.org. A special thanks to the ACLU of VA, Busboys and Poets, Loving Day.org, Special Occasions Band, and IDSocial Connect.
We look forward to more Loving Day celebrations in the future and wish for marriage equality for all people, everywhere.
