When and Where is the Celebration?
The Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington will hold a lunch in celebration of Loving Day on Sunday, June 12 at 12:45 at the UU Church, 2120 North Fee Lane, in Bloomington.
Loving Day commemorates the US Supreme Court decision in Loving vs. Virginia (1967), which established interracial marriage as a constitutionally protected right and made it illegal for states to enforce laws against it. Loving Day celebrates multiracial families and multiracial people, recognizing that love transcends race.
All who want to help celebrate and build multiracial community are warmly welcomed to attend. A multicultural potluck lunch is part of the celebration -- guests are asked to bring family favorite foods to share.
To prepare for this commemoration, the church is looking for photos that show how love's diversity makes our communities stronger and our world a more loving place. Guests who are members of multi-racial families (black, white, Asian, Native American, etc.), are asked to email photos of your family (don't forget to give us the names of everyone in the photo) for a display that will be shown during this party. All photos should be emailed by June 1 to firstname.lastname@example.org. Questions? Email them to the same address!
