After The Event

How did it go?:

The Loving Day Flagship Celebration in New York City had its best attendance ever this year with well over 1,000 guests. The outdoor waterfront festivities had everything our celebration has become famous for: DJs, dancing, food, drinks, and conversation. There was ping pong sponsored by Puma, and beer provided by Asahi. Guests of all ages made art about Loving Day and wrote letters asking the President to make Loving Day official.

Loving Day founder Ken Tanabe followed tradition by telling the story of the Lovings. He also shared some of the most compelling Loving Day Celebrations happening nationwide, including a triathlon in Denver, CO, a Loving Day wedding in Lincoln, NE, and a Loving Day ice cream social hosted in a swimming club in Indianapolis that didn't allow black members until 1982.

The Loving Day Flagship Celebration in New York City was featured on the ABC 7 evening news in New York. Other Loving Day celebrations nationwide were featured on ABC 7 News in Denver, CO and CBS 12 in Wichita, KS. Loving Day as a whole was featured on MTV Act (where MTV focuses on social change), Ebony, the Indianapolis Star, and CBS 2 in Greensboro/Winston-Salem, NC.

As always, the diverse crowd brought incredible positive energy and made the afternoon an absolute pleasure. A very sincere thank you to everyone who celebrated Loving Day with us. You helped us to continue our New York tradition, and to inspire celebrations in cities all over the world.
