After The Event

How did it go?:

The Loving Day Flagship Celebration in New York City celebrated its tenth year in New York with about 1,500 guests. Thanks to our Premier sponsors DateWhoYouWant.com, Puma, and Asahi Beer, the outdoor waterfront festivities had everything our celebration has become famous for: DJs, dancing, food, drinks, conversation, and that positive vibe you only find at Loving Day Celebrations. Guests of all ages made art about Loving Day, and the DJs had everyone dancing. We even had a Soul Train line and the Electric Slide.

Loving Day founder Ken Tanabe followed tradition by telling the story of the Lovings. He also thanked everyone who has made ten years of Loving Day Celebrations possible. This includes the Loving Day Core Team (whose volunteers meet throughout the year), the event volunteers at the Loving Day Flagship Celebration in New York City, and everyone who has ever hosted a Loving Day Celebration (there have been over 180 worldwide in the past ten years).

The Loving Day was featured on CNN's In America, NBC News in New York, MTV Act, three articles in the Huffington Post (from authors in New York, Detroit, Iowa City), and many others. Internationally, Loving Day was featured in La Croix (founded in 1880, one of France's oldest newspapers), and Arise TV (broadcasts from London, New York, Johannesburg and Lagos). Loving Day was also mentioned in stories by ABC/Univision, and PBS's Constitution USA.

As always, the diverse crowd brought incredible positive energy and made the afternoon an absolute pleasure. A very sincere thank you to everyone who celebrated Loving Day with us. Thank you for continuing our New York tradition for ten years, and for inspiring celebrations in cities all over the world.

Kristin Barr is a graduate of the photography department at Parsons the New School for Design. She took most of the portraits in our photo booth this year.

Craig Nisperos tells stories through cinematography. He has directed and produced videos on a broad range of subjects including the NCAA, Hurricane Sandy, and NYC Pride - as well as music videos and weddings.
