When and Where is the Celebration?
Celebrating the right to love and build family with who we wish! Loving Day fights racial prejudice through education and builds multicultural community. Loving v. Virginia is the Supreme Court case that legalized interracial marriage in the United States. This landmark civil rights case was decided on June 12th, 1967. We want to make this day of celebration a new tradition and hope that you will join us!
This is a potluck family picnic. Please bring everything that you need to have a wonderful afternoon in the park.... and some to share! We have picnic area C reserved with table seating for 75. We'll bring some tunes and toys and beer. Suggested items to bring: favorite foods and drinks (no glass containers), dishes for yourself/your crew, water, sunscreen, chairs, games/toys/sports equipment, swimsuit/towel, and few $$$ for the pool if you plan on swimming. This is a Leave No Trace event.
Northwest Park has a swimming pool, playground, basketball court, tennis court, track and pond (some folks even fish in it for fun!)
If you are interested in helping out with making Loving Day an annual event in Austin, please let one of us know. Please feel free to invite your friends and family to this picnic. Again, This is a Leave No Trace event.
This event is free but if you would like to bring a donation to help seed a larger event for next year we will be happy to accept.
