When and Where is the Celebration?
Bib & Tucker Sew-Op is partnering with UAB's Institute for Arts in Medicine for the third year of The March Quilts, which is an annual community art project that sheds light on a theme of civil or human rights through open sewing sessions. The theme for this year's March Quilts project is the 50th anniversary of the supreme court ruling on Loving V. Virginia. On June 12th, all quilts made from the last three years of the project will be on display at UAB Hospital. The quilts are made by Bib & Tucker Sew-Op members from blocks that were appliquéd, embroidered and pieced by community participants at dozens of open sewing sessions around Birmingham. This year, many of the quilt blocks for the LOVING quilt were made by staff, patients and family members of UAB Hospital. This event is free to the public and is an opportunity for Birmingham to learn more about its local sewing co-op and the Arts in Medicine program.
