In the 1967 case Loving v. Virginia, the Supreme Court struck down all race-based legal restrictions on marriage, citing the 14th Amendment’s equal protection clause. June 12, the day in which the Supreme Court rendered its decision, is remembered annually as Loving Day.

Watch Constitution USA with Peter Sagal to learn more about the 14th Amendment, which has been cited in more court cases than any other amendment.
