In 2012 I reconnected with a wonderful man from my past. When I was a college student working on my BA and MA degrees I was fortunate to take courses with a history professor who is full blood American Indian. From the time I graduated in 1996 we kept in contact via email exchanging notes and well wishes at the holidays. In 2011 Don, my partner, emailed me and asked if I wanted to participate in a conference panel. After agreeing I thought little about it. In 2012 we began talking and texting more often and after a period of time realized that more than friendship had developed between us. We have been together for several years now and as an interracial couple we know that there are many who view our relationship negatively. We believe, however, that love conquers all and have never been happier. In the end we all want the same things in life- happiness, security, family, love, companionship, and respect- no matter what our race. We can't thank Mildred and Richard Loving enough for having the courage to see their case through to ensure that other can have the freedom to love freely and openly.
