Loving Day Proclamation Brooklyn, NY 2015

Office of the President
Borough of Brooklyn
City of New York

Proclamation

Whereas, it is a time-honored Brooklyn tradition to recognize those individuals and organizations that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to promoting excellence and providing outstanding services and support to local residents and those in need, it is therefore fitting that we join in acknowledgement of their special events and occasions; and

Whereas, all of Brooklyn proudly gathers here today to honor and recognize Loving Day for its invaluable contributions in our great borough, on the commemoration of the anniversary of Loving vs. Virginia 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized interracial marriage nationwide; and

Whereas, on behalf of all Brooklynites, I salute Loving Day, a volunteer-run organization that combats prejudice and builds multicultural communities; I applaud Loving Day for providing an annual opportunity to learn history’s lessons while envisioning a better future for all by giving free accessible educational resources all year long through their website; I commend Loving Day for hosting the Flagship Celebration, the largest of all
with 1,500 people in attendance and continues to grow in popularity each year; and I thank everyone for all that they have done to touch and improve the lives of many, helping to move our communities forward as One Brooklyn;

Now, therefore, I, Eric L. Adams, President of the Borough of Brooklyn, do hereby proclaim June 12, 2015,

Loving Day in Brooklyn U.S.A.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Borough of Brooklyn to be affixed this 12th day of June, 2015.

(Signed) Eric L. Adams

President of the Borough of Brooklyn
